John Debney is one of today's most estimated film music composers. From Disney scores to magnitudes like The Passion of The Christ, surely he is already a well established name in the business. So with The Stoning of Soraya M. - the dramatic true tale of a young Iranian woman who is unjustly accused of adultery by her husband, so he can finance his 14 years old new wife -, Debney finds his masterpiece. This is a provocative, powerful, dramatic and, above all, human score. And yes, it is so far the best score of 2009, and I think even by the end of the year still will be among the best... but lets evaluate some cues.

"Main Title" starts with a suffering chant, followed by a cello soon complemented by voice, being the highlight of the track the point where the strings provides the sounds of misery. In "Soraya's Theme" the main motif is played by a flute which sets out the feelings of the character falsely accused and neglected by her husband. Now "They Looked Away as I Died" is probably the strongest track of the entire score, where the violin shows all the struggle, sadness and loneliness of the history.

"Concubine" is an intriguing song, like an escape, a change in the landscape... being supplemented by "Waiting", which also has an intriguing flavor, with constant voices, strings and percussion. "Saying Goodbye" also stands out for its melancholy, where the existing sadness is so touching that brings tears to the listener's eyes, very beautiful in its solitude and sorrow.

But the score climax is "The Stoning of Soraya M." which, with more than 12 minutes in lenght, has its highlight in a soft but intense piano, which with the flutes and strings creates a large inner melancholy, touching at the center of the human heart. Finally, another track to be highlighted is "The Escape" - strong, powerful and evocative, carrying the power of an incredible and beautiful piece.

Frankly the score is remarkable, human, incredible, exquisite and amazing. A work worthy of a great name, which already conquered his place in the pantheon of modern film music composers.
